Theme

"Synthesizing Weather Information for Society: From Observations to Action across our Communities". Today's meteorologists understand that the best forecast means collaborating with weather partners in education, emergency management, government, research, broadcast media and more. At this year's meeting, the breadth of the professional community is invited to explore the emerging technologies, ideas, and science that not only allow us to improve weather forecasts but also to fine tune the message to customers and the general public.

Abstract Submission:

The deadline for submission of new abstracts has passed. Thanks very much to the authors of over 245 abstracts that were submitted. Thanks also to the many students submitting and to those indicating they wish to be considered for the best poster and oral presentation competitions.

Abstracts are being linked from the online Agenda, so please make sure they have been carefully reviewed and edited. If you are unable to submit your abstract via the online form, please contact the NWA office at (919) 845-1546 or email: exdir@nwas.org.

Presenters will be kept updated by the NWA Annual Meeting Program Committee regarding the disposition of abstracts and agenda changes. An FTP site has been established at http://www.nwas.org/meetings/ftp_instructions.php with instructions for presenters to upload their presentations, preprints/extended abstracts and poster summary slides. Presentation tips are also available at: http://www.nwas.org/meetings/tips.php.

Questions? See Contacts.

Preprints/Extended Abstracts – New Opportunity for Presenters and their Coauthors:

If authors wish to expand their abstracts and presentation material into a completed paper, it can be uploaded to the NWA Web site and will be linked to the presentation entry in the Annual Meeting agenda. This will allow the online preprint to be cited as with papers from other conferences that publish preprints. These templates below in Word and pdf provide examples of what the completed preprints/extended abstracts (for the sample agenda item 3.1) should look like:

http://www.nwas.org/meetings/nwa2012/37NWA_abstract_template.pdf
http://www.nwas.org/meetings/nwa2012/37NWA_abstract_template.doc

More information is posted on the FTP site at http://www.nwas.org/meetings/ftp_instructions.php.

Poster Summary Slides – another New Opportunity:

This year, to better highlight the content of the posters to all, poster presenters have an option to provide a 'one-slide' poster summary "advertisement". This slide should just include a few main points and use the provided template. In general, this means one image and 2-3 bullets on the slide. This should not include the entire contents of your poster. The summaries will be presented by a session chair before a given poster session. These slide summaries should be uploaded on the FTP site by 1 October and will also be posted online.
