Calling All Students: Plan Now to Attend the Special Student Sessions at the 2009 Annual Meeting

There are many opportunities for students to participate in the 2009 Annual meeting. Please consider attending one of the special sessions dedicated to students or submitting an abstract for a presentation.

2nd Annual Student Session

The Sunday Student Session (1230 PM - 11 PM) will be designed to assist students with their entry into the workplace by concentrating on challenges and practices which will help separate graduates "from the pack" in the very competitive job market. This session will include a large student poster session and networking opportunities with weather broadcasters and other NWA members

DVD/Resume Critique Session for Broadcast Meteorology Students!

This special session will be conducted Sunday evening. The session will be led by broadcast professionals with the first hour concentrating on how to prepare a resume for a broadcast meteorology position, how to put your DVD together, how to dress, and do your makeup. During the second hour, students who have signed up will be paired with an experienced broadcaster for a one-on-one session to critique the student's broadcast demonstration DVD. The session is scheduled from 8:30 to 10:30 PM. Space is limited for those wishing to have their DVD critiqued. If interested, please indicate so on your meeting preregistration form and watch the NWA Annual Meeting Web site for more information.

Student Presentations

Abstracts were due on 1 June 2009, but students who wish to present at the annual meeting may be able to submit a late abstract for a poster presentation for the Sunday student poster session or poster sessions in the general sessions. Contact the program committee at annualmeeting@nwas.org for space availability. Abstract submission instructions are on Web page http://www.nwas.org/meetings/nwa2009/.

The NWA Weather Analysis and Forecasting Committee will evaluate student presentations and present monetary awards to the best in undergraduate and graduate student categories.
