Figure #5...U.S. Department of Commerce Daily Weather Map for 15 July 2003 shows the synoptic scale mid level pattern over the CONUS 1200 UTC. The ridge over the Southern Plains influenced Claudette’s organization and movement. The 1200 UTC 250 hPa map analysis (from the Storm Prediction Center's Forecast Tools: Surface and Upper Air Map webpage) also is provided to show the weak shear environment in the vicinity of Hurricane Claudette that allowed the storm to intensify before making landfall.
