GOES-TAP Distribution System Decommissioned 

On October 14th, after 24 years of service the GOES-TAP system, an analog system that provided
near real-time satellite imagery over telephone circuits to about 200 government and private sector
users around the U.S. was decommissioned. GOES-TAP has been replaced by a 
state-of-the art NOAAPORT digital distribution system. NOAAPORT will provide digital data
products at faster rates and higher resolution to the NWS Advanced Weather Interactive Processing
System (AWIPS). The NOAAPORT service is provided via satellite communications using C-band
technology.
