NWA Sample Request for Local Chapter Status

To form a local chapter of the National Weather Association takes at least three NWA members to organize it and develop a goal for the organization. Sample goals are shown in the sample request form below. The request should be signed and dated by at least three NWA members in good standing (i.e., current dues are paid).

Please e-mail the completed request form to the NWA Executive Director, Steve Harned and the Executive Assistant, Ruth Aiken, and follow up by mailing the original-signed request form to the NWA Office at:

Request for Local Chapter Status with the National Weather Association

We, the undersigned, hereby request the National Weather Association for authorization to form a local chapter of said association. Each of the undersigned is a member (regular or student) in good standing of the National Weather Association.

The xxxx (name requested) xxxx Chapter of the National Weather Association will serve as a forum to aid in the sharing and dissemination of the information regarding operational meteorology and related subjects between local media weathercasters, NWS meteorologists, private-sector meteorologists/consultants, college students, Emergency Managers, storm spotters and others interested in weather and weather support services. The chapter will also serve to support cooperation between the above mentioned organizations and individuals. The chapter will also help to support and promote excellence in operational meteorology and related activities in the local area. This region is very active with severe and fast changing weather and needs a local organization of individuals devoted to the promotion of weather observing, analysis and forecasting and weather education. The local chapter will benefit the public as those chapter members who forecast, broadcast, warn or educate the local citizens will be better informed. The chapter organizers expect at least ten members the first year and at least six regular meetings per year.
