Biography of Dr. Alan Nierow:

Alan Nierow worked at the National Weather Service (NWS) from 1973 to 1998. He
was awarded the Ph.D. degree in Meteorology from the University of Wisconsin
(Madison) in 1983.  He was awarded outstanding ratings for his forecast and computer automation efforts, and as an Aviation Focal Point at the Washington DC forecast office In
addition, he received Department of Commerce Gold Medals for specific weather predictions.

In 1998, he transferred to the FAA Headquarters (ASD-120) in Washington DC as a
Meteorologist/System Enginee where he is currently evaluating advanced technologies
(models, data, etc.) with the NWS and NASA to improve thunderstorm observations
and forecasting over the en-route and oceanic airspace.
