National
Weather Association
Established 1994 Serving Coastal Mississippi, Alabama, and NW Florida
The National Weather Association was incorporated in 1975 to primarily serve people interested in operational meteorology and related activities. Since then, the national organization has grown to more than 3000 members worldwide. Locally, the Central Gulf Coast Chapter was incorporated in 1994. Although dissolved in 1996, the chapter was reactivated in 2000 to serve a growing meteorological community in the Central Gulf Coast region. In the past, meeting topics covered everything from hurricane hunters, to severe weather outbreaks, to hydrology, to snowfall in the Southeast.
Our members include broadcast meteorologists, National Weather Service meteorologists, University of South Alabama Meteorology Department faculty, meteorology students, and other people interested in weather. It is our philosophy to make the meetings meteorologically interesting, while keeping it on a level everyone can understand. Like many other non-profit professional organizations, we do incur expenses and have annual dues. However, they are inexpensive - only $5 to $10 per year. Please take a minute to look around our homepage. The URL can be found at the top of this letter. If you need more information, please drop us an email.
Meeting times are usually posted
in advance on our webpage as well. Information on meetings will also
be posted at the Coastal Weather Research Center, and at the National
Weather Service Forecast Office at Bates Field. We would enjoy meeting
you.
