ANNOUNCING: The AccuWeather Undergraduate Scholarship in Meteorology

Thanks to the generosity of AccuWeather, Inc., this scholarship opportunity is available from the National Weather Association.

Offering: One scholarship per year in the amount of $1000.

Starting Date: This scholarship opportunity began in 2004.

Administration: The scholarship selection will be administered by the NWA Education Committee. The NWA office announces the call for applications by March, applications close 15 May and the scholarship designee will be notified by mid-June.

Eligibility: Undergraduates going into their sophomore year or higher grade and majoring in operational meteorology (forecasting, broadcasting or consulting) may apply. If the undergraduate student is classified as a senior he/she must have one more fall (Sep. - Dec.) semester to complete after the scholarship is awarded.

Award Criteria: The scholarship will be awarded based on:
a) official college transcripts (academic achievement),
b) two letters of recommendation (at least one from a current or former meteorology professor),
c) a letter (not longer than one page) from applicant describing their involvement/interest in operational meteorology.

Logistics: Scholarship money will be transferred following the financial guidelines of the college or university involved. If there aren't any financial guidelines from the school, NWA will make the $1,000 check payable to both the student and the education institution at the beginning of the September - December semester or quarter.

Applications for the NWA AccuWeather Undergraduate Scholarship to be awarded in 2007 must be submitted to the NWA office by 15 May 2007. The NWA office address and other contact information are on the application form.
